The ports of Hudaydah, Al-Salif, and Ras Issa, controlled by the Houthi rebels, have witnessed sustained drops in incoming shipments during 2025.

The decline to a combination of factors, including infrastructure damage from recent airstrikes, tighter import restrictions, and currency volatility.

According to monitoring groups, the disruption has already caused over $1.3 billion in direct and indirect losses this year, severely affecting unloading operations and fuel distribution.

The shortages are compounding an already dire humanitarian situation in northern Yemen, where millions of people face acute food insecurity.

Humanitarian organizations have expressed concern that the continued decline in imports could push vulnerable communities into deeper crisis.

Fuel shortages are also hampering hospitals, water pumping stations, and transportation networks, further straining daily life.

The decline comes amid broader regional instability, with sanctions and maritime security tensions adding pressure to Yemen’s fragile economy.
